Power Cylinders
Bentham & Holroyds Power Cylinders are manufactured in house to ISO 9001 QA, giving customers full traceability of all parts used to manufacture cylinders.
Bentham & Holroyd Ltd have been designing and manufacturing power cylinders for over 30 years and are able to offer the design and supply a full range of Hydraulic and pneumatic Power Cylinders to the industrial OEM’s, Power stations and the Nuclear sector.
The cylinders can be made in a variety of materials depending on the application and local environment conditions of use.
Benthams power cylinders benefit from the additional advantage of an in house design facility, using Solid Works we can give the customer the ability to specify a number of modifications to standard cylinders, or a complete new design to their requirements.
With new design or prototype cylinders, fatigue testing can be undertaken, complete with test certification.
When assembling cylinders we automatically undertake the following :-
- Automated cylinder and rod wash within manufacturing cell
- Thread protection whilst seals assembled
- Protecting the integrity of all components during fitting.

For cylinders we can offer :-
- Friction rod welding of ram eye ends where possible and when requested
- Lloyds certified and coded welding used
- Fine grinding of ram surface
- Induction hardened and chrome plated rods, to give extended seal life, improved corrosion resistance and reduce damage from external hazards.
- Stellite hard facing of components to extend working life.
- Chrome plating integrity tested using Statistical Process Control (SPC) when requested
- End damping, Protects end of stroke reactions and adds to stability.
- Environmental protection Coating of outer body when required
The Benthams Power Cylinder range starts from as small as 25mm bore x 50mmstroke upto 400mm diameter x 3000mm stroke.
Customer requirement dictate the size specifications, with the environment dictating the materials / coatings used.
As well as the manufacture bespoke power cylinders, we offer a full refurbishment and repair service facility, plus an extensive spares department.
Stellite hard facing can also be used to repair worn parts and extend their working life where applicable.
7x24 Pilkington
Standard 7 x 24 power cylinder which was adapted for Pilkington’s to allow the cylinder to stand alone in its own frame rather than free standing.
MK 6 control unit
Position Control unit based on the Kent Mark 6 type currently in world wide use.
3x6 cylinder
Standard 3 x 6 power cylinder, fitted with PCU, turnbuckle and gator, The following can easily be added to met various customer requirements :-
- XTV 6 and 7 air lock
- IP converter
- Positional transmitter
3 x 12 cylinder
Standard 3 x 12 power cylinder, fitted with PCU, turnbuckle and gator. The following can easily be added to met various customer requirements :-
- XTV 6 and 7 air lock
- IP converter
- Positional transmitter
Control Units
Various Control units are available, however the KENT compatible unit based on the mark 6 unit is mainly used. Made from cast aluminium and to IP52 it is a rugged and time proven design. Alternatively, depending on environmental conditions, other materials are available although not all are cast but may be either fabricated or machined from solid.

Spares & Refurbish
As well as the manufacture of bespoke power cylinders, we offer a full refurbishment and repair facility and maintain an extensive spares department.
Our refurbishment service covers many types of cylinders, including the KENT compatible based products as well as our own Tie-rod units and most other manufacturer's equipment.
Stellite hardfacing of worn components can be a cost effective repair, greatly extending future life expectancy of the part, especially where they are hard to find or of an unusual design.
Our spares department however, covers a large range of spares for various types of pneumatic and hydraulic power cylinders.
